Any help is greatly appreciated, as this issue has been persisting for six months - I gave up and focused on a different project last time this time that's not an option. This is exclusively to host and connect to on the same device, testing programming functionality for a payroll application I wrote. Suddenly I cant connect to the sql instance in Management Studio, or with a Powershell Invoke-SQLcmd IF I am doing it from that actual server, when using one of the dns alias names, or 'localhost'. There is the cluster alias for the server, and then we have 2 AD DNS aliases as well for the server. Checking the configuration manager, there are no items under SQL Server Services. This is also a windows/sql clustered environment. I even followed an exact installation guide (linked below) and the issue is still there. Every time, I get an error - Cannot connect to. I have tried connecting to (local)\SQLEXPRESS, SQLEXPRESS, LOCALHOST and my own local IP. I click to browse for more, and the local server page is blank. ![]() I get to the "connect to server" page, and the server name list is blank. ![]() I've tried installing SQL Server Management Studio 2005, 20 and have come across the same problem every time. Before you tell me to google it, I'll assure you that I have, and none of the solutions work.
